Cliff, 59, and Coronation Street actor Andrew, 38, will shake-up the newly-formed Croc Creek when they head into the jungle to join their 10 campmates.

Call The Midwife star Cliff admitted he is worried tension could rise over huger, with him having enjoyed a big English breakfast and lunch beforehand.

‘I do feel a little bit guilty that I am going in late, I will be going in with a full belly, a big breakfast, nice lunch and I will be jolly whilst they will all be starving,’ Cliff said.

‘It is going to be tricky going in late though because they will have bonded and made friendships.’

‘How will I make friends with them? I am going to try and bring in a bag of sweets.’

Cliff, who also rose to fame as mechanic Minty Peterson on EastEnders, confessed he signed up for the show after being confronted with a large tax bill.

He said: ‘I had always said “no” to anything with the word “celebrity” tagged to it and I have avoided those shows like the plague.

‘But everyone on last year’s series was so much fun and I loved watching it. I realised it would be great fun to do. And now I am going to do it, I am hoping it will be cathartic.’

Firm favourite: Andrew, meanwhile, has reassured fans he is definitely not quitting Coronation Street to take part in the show

Insisting he is definitely not a gung-ho type of person, he says he isn’t sure how he is going to cope with the trials. ‘I don’t like any of that stuff,’ Cliff added.

‘I am a Londoner. We don’t have animals. I am allergic to cats. And when I go to the zoo, I am looking at the animals from behind glass.’

‘I do think the trials will be scary but I will still give them a go. I will try my best to win the stars.’

Andrew, meanwhile, has reassured fans he is definitely not quitting Coronation Street to take part in the show as he predicts his co-stars will wage a campaign to get him to do every trial.

The actor, joined Corrie 20 years ago as hapless Kirk Sutherland, said: ‘It's going to be nice for people to get to know me rather than people thinking I am dopey Kirk.’

Readily admitting he is no survival expert – ‘I haven't camped since 1999’ – Andy is determined to try his best.

He said: ‘I am not looking forward to the eating trials and I am a bit worried about what I will find when you put your hand in something.

‘But when you are hungry, you have to do it for your campmates and try your best.’
